Overview

Plasmas and LCD TV'S are becoming more popular because of their slim design, lower price and ability to be wall-mounted. To determine which is better, you'll need to consider how, where and why you want to use the television and compare the merits of both.

Home Theater

For an almost-theater experience, plasma TVs are the best choice. They provide a cleaner, clearer picture, better color and brightness and smoother display of fast moving scenes.

HD Gaming

gamers, such as those using XBox 360s or PS3s, should purchase plasmas. The screen refreshes, which will allow for a better flow to game play without lag, and the contrast is much higher, which allows for the best display of small details.

Office/Classroom

In offices or classrooms, where the TV will be moved often, LCDs are the best choice. LCDs don't risk as much damage as plasmas when moved, and their lighter, more compact design makes them more mobile.

Bedrooms

Since most bedrooms aren't large enough to accommodate huge screens, LCDs are preferable to plasmas. LCDs are more widely available in small sizes and are much less expensive than small plasmas.

Price

When price is the only deciding factor, LCDs are usually better. It is much easier to find a low end, inexpensive LCD than it is to find a similarly priced plasma.
